5AM, Western Red Cedar, and Ethernets….

I’m typing this at 5:07am. I’m out on my new deck on a beautiful clear June morning, having just plugged my laptop into the network jack.

I think I’m the only guy in the neighborhood with an outdoor deck that sports western red cedar, a bbq, several lounge chairs, an assortment of planters and flowers, as well a 10-base-T Ethernet connection and a variety of phone jacks.

Critical optimism

Brigham agrees the lack of standards will cause problems for the technology at the outset: “It’s a lot of work to code XML and [create a DTD]. Until there are standards that everyone can agree on, many companies won’t think it’s worth the effort.”

Reeling in information

More and more, systems like Verbind’s are proving themselves with lasting value. After analyzing two years’ worth of Reel’s transaction data last spring, a five-plus-member Verbind team quickly developed behavior maps for Reel. Customer groups based on specific criteria allowed Reel to follow groups of similar customers. (more…)
