These high-risk procedures include gastroscopy in which the esophagus is dilated or in which a needle is used to deliver an injection into the lining of the esophagus. Patients at high-risk of endocarditis include those who have had the condition in the past, those who have had their heart valves replaced and those who have recently received vascular grafts. What Is Menopause?

By definition, menopause is the permanent cessation of menses. It is the endpoint of a gradual decline in ovarian function and marks the end of the reproductive years. Although menopause is an event common to all women, each woman’s menopausal experience is unique. The hormonal changes of menopause occur at a time in a woman’s life associated with many physical and social changes. These physical changes may include graying hairs, the appearance of wrinkles, expanding waistlines and the development of certain illnesses. A woman’s children may either leave or come back home at the same time that her parents are growing older and may begin to need extra support. This may become a time of triumph or trials. It is the complex interplay of the hormonal, physical and psycho-social factors that define an individual’s menopausal years. (more…)
