Antifreeze Poisoning

Every year thousands of pets die from exposure to ethylene glycol, the active ingredient found in commercial automobile antifreeze. Most poisonings occur in the autumn when radiator fluid is changed. The sweet taste of ethylene glycol encourages consumption by pets and the clinical presentation after that is common to veterinarians.

Some pets may appear drunk and awkward initially but coma and death are a common sequel if they are not attended to immediately. Some of the symptoms are caused by toxic effects on the liver but the most dangerous are those effects on the kidney. Early treatment is critical because once the kidneys are damaged they cannot be repaired.

Taxis

The big brouhaha over a minister’s opinion that cabbies should be lined up and shot fleecing tourist provided interesting reading for the sensationalists.

Taxi drivers responded predictably, demanding an apology.

The words and theatrics in this whole scenario are not important. The only thin that customers, whether local or foreign, care about is service and price.

Consumers of any product or service should be satisfied that they are getting decent service at respectable price.
